How to choose the right Helsport tent

A tent is often a major investment, so you need to choose well to make sure you end up with the tent that’s right for you and your needs. Here are some pointers to help you out.

Size

When we refer to a tent as a one-man, two-man or three-man tent, we do so based on a calculation of the number of sleeping spaces in the tent. If three people share a three-man tent, there’s room for everyone to sleep but that’s about it. It may feel a little cramped when it’s time to cook or fit all the kit inside.

Take the shape of the tent also into consideration when you choose sleeping pads, since the layouts vary from a square to models that narrow in the end.

Most of the Helsport series include different sizes of the same tent.

In summer, when you spend a lot of time outside, space matters less. However, you should still bear in mind that a bit more room might be great if the weather was to take a turn for the worse.

In winter, it is generally recommended to go up a tent size. This is because we tend to carry more kit and clothing with us in winter, as well as larger sleeping bags and roll mats, which must all fit in the tent. For example, if three people will be going on a winter hike, we recommend a four-man tent.

Vestibules / absides / room for equipment

Think about how much extra space you want in your tent. If the weather is bad, it may be nice to cook your food in a shelter or let the wet, stinky dog in the abside of the tent for a while.

Helsport Lofoten series

Light and spacious tunnel tents from Helsport. Pro tents are designed for every season. Trek 3 Camp shares the same idea, but it is a 1 kg heavier and a considerably taller model. A high-quality tent meant for pleasure-seekers, not for gram-splitters.

X-Trem is a robust version of the Pro model. The colours and the wide skirts suit even for demanding conditions. Extra strong lines and pole cups and a possibility to use two pole sets (double pole cups incl.)

Superlight tents are, as the name implies, super light. The most lightweight model (for two people) only weights about 1.6 kg, and the other two-man model is about 300g heavier because of its more spacious vestibule.

Helsport Reinsfjell series

The dome tent series of Helsport. The benefits of a dome tent are naturally the extreme sturdiness and the comfortable sitting height. Reinsfjell is available in two and three-man Pro models as well as a Superligt version.

Helsport Ringstind series

The most lightweight and minimalist tent series of Helsport includes compact one and two-man tents in Pro and Superlight versions. The one-man Superlight tent only weighs 1.04 kg, which is basically nothing. In addition, it is suitable even for hard conditions.

Helsport Varanger

Camp models: A four season lavvu with a widened entrance the form of which prevents rain from entering the tent when the entrance is open. Two extra windows in the entrance bring more light into the tent, while the mosquito net and several ventilation openings keep the tent interior pleasant. You can add extra comfort with a footprint, an inner tent, and a lavvu stove which are sold separately.

Basic model: Practically the same but with a normal-sized entrance and fewer ventilation openings and windows. This brings lightness and simplicity to the tent.

Helsport Svalbard

Known for being a high-end tent used by expeditions. Svalbard High has been tested from north to south pole and from Greenland’s plains to the highest mountains. It is the best of the best expedition tents and a familiar sight in base camps all around the world. The materials and the details have been designed carefully and tested in extreme conditions. The tear strength value of the tent is 20 kg, which makes it one of the most durable tents in the market.

Helsport Valhalla

Tent for the whole group. You can buy just the outer tent, or the whole package that includes everything. The height of the vestibule is 210 cm, and the surface area is as much as 7.68m2. Both ends of the tents have place for max four sleepers, so this is suitable even for bigger groups. For more static camping, since it is not the most lightweight nor smallest tent in the market: the outer tent and accessories weigh 10 kg, the inner tent is lighter, 1.65 kg, and the footprint weighs 600 g. You can place a Helsport stove also in this model’s vestibule, so five stars for this hotel.
